NTSB to Offer Two Marine Safety Training Courses for Marine Industry Professionals in FY-09

Accident Investigation Orientation for Marine Professionals (MS 301), will be offered October 7-8, 2008, at the NTSB Training Center in Ashburn, VA. The second course, Marine Accident Investigation, (MS 101), will be offered January 26-30, 2009, also at the NTSB Training Center, and provides in-depth exposure to NTSB investigative techniques and methods. This is the first time the Safety Board has ever offered either program as a stand-alone course.

London Club says gear bins should be part of planned maintenance system

THE London P&I Club says it is aware of increasing concern that bins and flat- racks used to stow container twistlocks on board vessels are occasionally found to be in an unsafe condition because of corrosion or physical damage. And it warns that the structural failure of this equipment as it is lifted could create a severe personal injury risk.
