Former Senator Ted Stevens on Plane that Crashed in Alaska

Former United States Senator Ted Stevens was one of eight people on board a plane that crashed in southern Alaska on Monday night.

Matt Simmons Dies at 67

Matthew R. Simmons, founder of the Ocean Energy Research Institute in Rockland, Maine, passed away suddenly on Sunday night of an apparent heart attack, he was 67. He is survived by his wife, Ellen, and their five daughters. Mr. Simmons was also former chairman of Simmons & Company International.

Disney cruise ship the Disney Magic rescued 18 Algerians stranded in the Mediterranean Sea on Friday.

Pirates Abandon Sugar Ship Near Somalia

EU NAVFOR reported that pirates had abandoned a cargo ship of sugar in the Gulf of Aden, leaving two crewmembers injured. The 18,838 ton SYRIA STAR was carrying a crew of 22 Syrians and two Egyptians when it was boarded off the coast of Somalia.

Pirates held the boat for two days before escaping on the ship's life boats.
